ISCTE, which stands for Instituto Superior de Ciencas de Trabalho e Emprego, (roughly translated to Higher Institute of Labor and Employment) was overall a good school. It is a business school in the heart of Lisbon. I took business classes such as International Marketing, Marketing Management, Accounting as well as Portuguese History and Culture class. I feel very blessed to have been able to study what I am most interested in, that is, International Business, in a foreign country. I loved the fact that I was able to improve my Portuguese skills as well, and get a taste of some of the differences between the Portuguese spoken in Brazil and Portugal. I am also very interested in Marketing, so it was great to be able to learn more about that subject and get an international experience. The school and its students were without a doubt much different than BYU. The Portuguese are a people that do not mind taking forever to get things done, so I am looking forward to returning to where things are more organized and orderly. The students I encountered at ISCTE were all very friendly and outgoing, though obviously had much different values and beliefs than BYU students hold. Regardless of this fact, it was definitely a good experience to be able to study at a different school in a different country and culture and get a taste of what it was like. This being said, I have a whole new respect for Brigham Young University and the high level of education that it offers while helping us to uphold the highest of standards.
