My friend Louise from Belguim and I after a long day of sight seeing stopped at the pastry shop Pasteis de Belem. It is very famous around here, and it is a must stop if you are in the Belem neighborhood. Their most famous pastry is called a pastel de nata. Pasteis de Nata originated at the pastry shop that is pictured here, where they are still called by their original name Pasteis de Belem (though throughout the rest of Portugal they are called Pasteis de Nata, I hope that wasn't too confusing). This pastry is one with a rich custard filling in a flaky pastry cup. It is best served warm with a sprinkle of sugar and cinnamon on top. It is very popular throughout all of Portugal, and can be found in just about every coffee shop and bakery. They are quite delicious! Camilia loved them too when she came.
