The Praca dos Restauradores is a square located in downtown Lisbon, which had to be completely rebuilt after the huge earthquake in 1755. It is one of if not the busiest parts of the city, and is filled with tourists. It is funny, because often times I would try to talk to people first in Portuguese, but I was better off just trying English because most of the people around there spoke more English than Portuguese. It is cool actually to hear all the different languages being spoken. I have come to notice that you can get by pretty well with just English in most parts of Lisbon, and after talking with my brother John he said that pretty much all of European cities are like that these days. A different sections of the city square are lined by trees, large statues, monuments, fountains, theaters and outdoor cafes. We ran into a group of Portuguese students who were giving out free hugs, and they were excited when we accepted the offer. Included in these pictures is an aerial view of the square taken from the top of the Elevador de Santa Justa, as well as pictures taken from when Camilia was in Lisbon. The last two pictures show some of the sidewalks that Portugal is famous for. They are white and black and are carefully put together to make what can be considered beautiful artwork. The sidewalks are all throughout the city, and similar sidewalks can be found in Rio de Janeiro at the Copacabana beach.
